Maya Walters from the heart of wakesurf country, Windermere, FL, is next on the announcement list for new team Phase 5 riders for 2026. Maya is a surf-style rider who is all about hard slayshes on the wave and taking her tricks way above the lip. After an undefeated 2025 season in her division, we thought it was time to bring her on board. Get to know her a bit better below!

- P5 Board of Choice: I've been riding the John Akerman’s Ahi, but excited to try the Sensei. I've also been loving foiling on the Gizmo, and I’m planning to compete in skim on the Ashley’s Mindset.

PHASE 5: Welcome to team Phase 5! How does it feel?
Maya: Amazing! This opportunity is such a blessing!
PHASE 5: Where are you from and how did you get into wakesurfing?
Maya: I am from Windermere Florida, and I got into wakesurfing when my dad bought a Nautique and I haven't stopped riding since.
PHASE 5: What made you want to ride for Phase 5?
Maya: I want to ride for Phase Five because I look up to all of the amazing pro athletes on the team and I aspire to be like them. Ever since I started riding my Phase Five board I felt like I could accomplish anything.
PHASE 5: What are your plans for the 2026 season?
Maya: This season I plan to move up to the Girls Open division and keep all of my titles I earned last year. I also look forward to adding skim, unstrapped, and strapped foil to my competition season.
PHASE 5: Is there anyone you'd like to thank or shoutout?
Maya: I would like to shout out my dad for always supporting me and taking me out to practice and have fun, John Akerman for being such an amazing coach, and to both of them for helping me accomplish my goals. I would also like to shout out Ashley Inloes for inviting me to her girls camp and introducing me to so many amazing girls in the surf community.
