Learn more about her below and join us in welcoming her to the team!

  • Name: Morgan Bateman
  • Nickname: Mo / Morg
  • Location: Alberta, Canada
  • P5 Board of Choice: Key 50”
  • Years Riding: 5
  • Favorite Trick: 3 shuv on skim, 360 on surf
  • Riding Crew: Bailey Rush, Bennett Bateman, & Chad Bateman
  • Biggest Accomplishment in Wakesurfing: Every year at worlds, I have my personal best run. It is the goal every season, that no matter who I am competing with, that I beat the run I had the previous year. With that mindset, it has happened in every Worlds I have attended. I’d say my biggest accomplishment is having that mindset every year, and completing that goal. I also went to the IWWF World Championships in Hong Kong, placed 3rd in skim, and 5th in surf. My first competition competing in Surf was Canadian Nationals and I ended up coming first in both skim and surf, giving me the Dual Outlaw Female Canadian Champion title!

PHASE 5: Morgan, congrats on joining team P5! We're stoked to have you. What are you most excited about with this?
Morgan: I am incredibly honoured and excited for the opportunity to represent Phase 5 Wakesurfers both on and off the water. Being part of a company with such a strong legacy in the wakesurfing community is a dream come true. I’m eager not only to improve my performance with the support of Phase 5 but also to represent the brand with pride, sportsmanship, and professionalism at every event and in every setting.

PHASE 5: When did you start surfing and how did you get into it?
Morgan: My wakesurfing journey began in 2021 when I took my first lesson with Bailey Rush at our lake resort. Although I struggled at first, I quickly found my rhythm and continued training with her throughout the summer. The following year, I began competing, earning podium finishes in the Alberta Wake Tour and becoming the Junior Champion at Canadian Nationals. That experience fueled my passion for the sport and inspired me to pursue my goal of becoming a professional dual-discipline world champion.

PHASE 5: Where is your favorite place to ride and why?
Morgan: My home base is Gull Lake, a serene and scenic location with calm waters, especially in the early mornings and evenings. The lake’s peaceful atmosphere and uncrowded conditions make it the perfect environment to train and continue pushing my riding to new levels.

PHASE 5: What made you want to ride for Phase 5?
Morgan: I’ve been riding Phase 5 boards for the past four years and have loved watching the company grow and evolve. The innovation in technology, design, and graphics each season is inspiring and constantly motivates me to elevate my own performance to match the high standards of the brand.

PHASE 5: Who do you usually ride with and where?
Morgan: My typical training crew includes my brother Bennett and my dad, who is usually behind the wheel of our boat. I also occasionally ride with my coach, Bailey Rush, who surfs the same lake. Bailey has played an enormous role in my progression, and we’ve created many great memories together on the water.

PHASE 5: What are some of your plans for the 2025 season? What tricks are you working on?
Morgan: As I begin my first year in the Professional division, my primary goal is to qualify for Worlds. While this is a big step in my journey, I feel confident that I can compete among the top-tier women in wakesurfing and contribute to the progression of the sport. On the skim side, I’m currently working on advancing tricks such as the 540 big spin, blind body varial, and switch bigger spin. On the surf side, I’ve been pushing myself to land a big spin, a shuv-in shuv-out combo, and a revert 360. Surf is a newer discipline for me, and I know it will take continued training and determination to meet the professional standard—but I’m ready for the challenge and confident in my ability to grow.

PHASE 5: Congrats again, Morgan! We're stoked to see what you do with a Phase 5 under your feet! Is there anything else you'd like to say or anyone you'd like to thank?
Morgan: I want to express my deepest gratitude to my family and especially to Bailey Rush. Bailey has been more than a coach—she’s been a mentor and friend who’s helped guide me through the highs and lows of competition. Her encouragement has kept me focused and motivated, even after tough events. I wouldn’t be the rider I am today without her influence. My family’s unwavering support has also made this journey possible, and I am so thankful to have them behind me every step of the way.

Joining the Phase 5 team means more to me than just sponsorship—it’s about becoming part of a community of athletes and innovators who share the same passion for wakesurfing. I’m ready to represent the brand with integrity, drive, and enthusiasm, and I’m excited for the future we can build together.
