TEAM | Quick Catch Up With Cade Lybeck

Cade Lybeck may not get much surfing in during the winter due to living in Minnesota, but when the season is on, it’s on! With a solid 2025 season in his rearview and his eyes set squarely on 2026, we caught up with him to chat about what’s going on. Check it out below.

PHASE 5: What’s up, Cade? How has the off season been treating you?
Cade: The off season has been treating me really well, I have spent a lot of time snowboarding and coaching kids through Foundation and Ride Inspired which is a ministry in action sports. I also have been working at Faction Marine learning to sell boats!

PHASE 5: How did 2025 go for you? What were some of your highlights?
Cade: 2025 was a year of learning for me both on and off of the water. My first year pro was next level, the best of the best and trying to get up there with them is challenging but I love it. I moved out of my parents house late 2025 and moved to a place with my girlfriend, which is awesome. Overall, I think 2025 will go down as one of the best years of my life.

PHASE 5: What are your plans for 2026? Any cool trips planned or competitions you’ll be attending?
Cade: Yeah, in 2026 I plan to be really busy with work and training in the summer. I’m going to my buddy Tommy’s for a week before the comp in Arizona to train and hangout, it should be super fun. But I plan to compete in the WSWS series as well as a couple CWSA comps and hopefully make it to Japan for worlds!

PHASE 5: Who is your usual riding crew?
Cade: My usual riding crew is my dad. Sometimes my girlfriend and friend come out but my dad is my coach and my driver. He’s an amazing coach and definitely the best driver I know.

PHASE 5: What’s a typical day on the water look like for you?
Cade:Honestly, a day on the water for me lasts about two hours. The only time I can typically ride is sunrise or sunset. We work really hard in the summer to build our business and serve our customers the best we can. I also can’t surf all winter being in MN, so you learn to never take a set for granted. It’s a constant battle to continue to progress and stay on top of my game, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I love a challenge because I know I can do anything.

PHASE 5: Do you have a trick list for 2026 that you’re trying to knock off?
Cade: I have a few tricks up my sleeve that I want to learn. I want to get my 7 big and bigger spins dialed. I have some more creative combos I want to get dialed in and then I have some secret tricks I’ll be working on being the scenes.

PHASE 5: Thanks for chatting with us, Cade! Stoked to see how this year goes for you. Is there anything else you’d like to say before we go?
Cade: I just want to say thank you to Phase 5 and the crew, seriously the best guys around helping me get whatever I need to be on top of my game. And shout out to my dad Jason at Faction Marine he also used to ride to P5, kind of a cool fact. Anyways, thanks for chatting and we will see you guys on the water soon!
