Event Recap: Canadian Nationals

This past weekend Canadian Nationals was held just outside of Calgary at Lake Chestermere. We made it out to support the event and it didn’t disappoint. The event site and production of the contest was top notch with a lot of credit due to the Rocky Mountain Wakesurf Association that organized the whole event.

The level of riding over the weekend was through the roof as all the top riders made the trek to Canada for the Platinum Level CWSA event. I had the opportunity to judge the Junior division over the weekend and it continues to blow my mind how these young guns are throwing down. The first ever switch front big spin was landed by a Junior and that pretty much goes to show the progression of the sport. In the Amateur Divisions, P5 team rider Ryder Duczek stood out with his smooth style that took him to the top spot on the podium. As apart of our sponsorship of Nationals, we donated a P5 Matrix for the best trick in the Amateur division and Montanna Rouselle took it home. She landed her first shuv ever in competition and we were super stoked to award her with the P5 Matrix!

In the Outlaw Divisions, there was a lot to watch. This division has quickly become one of the most contested divisions with Pro level riding taking place. P5 team rider Bailey Rush was throwing down all weekend in both skim and surf. She finished 2nd in Surf on her P5 Ahi.

Last but not least the Professional division was stacked with a lot of great competition. It seemed as if the level of riding got better each day leading up to the Final day yesterday. Jodi Grassman continued her strong performance this summer by landing a 5 big to wrap up the top spot in Women’s Skim. Fellow P5 rider Lara Latham rode really well all weekend and almost stomped her first 3 shuv in contest in route to a solid 3rd place finish. Sean Silvera was blowing minds once again with all kinds of crazy combos. What really separates him is his switch riding where he virtually does everything he does regular on the opposite side of the wave. He took the top spot in Men’s Skim with a lot of completion from Jake Caster and Aaron Witherall.

We were really stoked to be able to support Canadian Nationals this year and want to thank all the volunteers that help make these events possible. Without their help, we wouldn’t be able to enjoy these fun events. Thank you to the Rocky Mountain Wakesurf Association for organizing this event and having us apart of it.

Cheers!
